Salonistas from all backgrounds are invited to our retreats - from affordable 'writing days' for literary and creative belles in Cambridge, the East of England, London and beyond, to shorter 'writing evenings' In an accessible location close to you. Each event includes - simply - timetabled time to write. Or a short talk from writers or publishing professionals, a workshop, or time to network with other writers.
Novelists, short story writers, poets, journalists, copywriters, playwrights, singers and screenplay writers - whatever your background or stage of career, drop us a line if scibbling is your thing and share ideas, get involved!

About Your Hostess of The Salon: Ruthie Collins
Ruthie Collins is Deputy Editor of Inspirational Woman Magazine and writes features on contemporary culture and modern women. Her first book, co-written with Lisa Mundemba Chuma, A Modern Day Sisterhood (published by Inspirational Woman Magazine) is launched in 2012. Ruthie makes art out of recycled media and glittery things, likes to throw paint at canvases and is also working on a novel - Doing up Cleopatra. Ruthie also works as an art and enterprise coach/consultant for creatives and entrepreneurial women. She is Creative Director of the Cambridge Art Salon.

Beginners Womens Writing Course

Would you like to learn to write in a nurturing environment, with other like minded women? Do you have plenty of ideas, but need a structured environment to help get to started? Do you work better to deadlines? This 8 week course over two parts (Lifestyle Journalism and Creative Writing) is for those itching to write: designed to help you learn from published writers and experts on the writing practice in a relaxed environment. The course has set assignments, so requires commitment outside of the weekly classes.
Part 1. 11th April, 18th, 25th 2nd (Beginners) Lifestyle Journalism
This is a 4 week taster course in lifestyle journalism, looking at the basics of arts and music reviews, interviews, food writing, travel and fashion. By the end of the course you will have the beginnings of a portfolio of work, plus will have learned from guest writers who are experts in these fields through face to face talks, recorded interviews and case studies. Learn how to pitch for press trips and travel the world for free; or how to interview artists and personalities (you will be put in contact with female musicians and artists to interview as part of the course).
Part 2. May 16th 23rd, May 30th, June 6th, (Beginners) Creative Writing
This is a 4 week taster course that will simply help you cultivate a creative writing practice covering both fiction and poetry and provide plenty of tips on keeping going. Give yourself the tools and the time you need to write. Study the work of published women writers, learn from their techniques. Tap into what really drives you as a writer. Experiment with a range of short, highly effective creative writing techniques designed to inspire and encourage you. Learn from guest female writers through recorded interviews and case studies.
